Childhood myopia increases by an average of 0.29 diopters per year in children aged 8 to 12, causing prevalence to double in just three years (from 12.3% to 28.7%), according to a study by the UPC's Vision, Optometry and Health group. The findings show that family socioeconomic status directly influences this increase and warn that girls experience a faster progression of eye growth than boys.
