Òptics x mÓn is a non-profit NGO founded in 1995 that focuses on solidarity actions in the professional and educational fields of Optics and Optometry in the Third and Fourth Worlds, such as Burkina Faso, Senegal and Nicaragua, among others. It also promotes recycling and sustainability through campaigns on the reuse of frames and proper disposal of contact lenses.

1) CONTACT LENS RECYCLING - FISH

Are you a contact lens user? Fish don't need contact lenses!

Òptics x mÓn new initiative aims to raise awareness among contact lens users about the consequences of throwing contact lenses down the sink and how they pollute the oceans.

2) GLASSES RECYCLING CENTER

Since 1999, Òptics x mÓn has had a glasses recycling center (CRU) in a space provided by the Terrassa City Council as a result of the close collaboration between the organization and the municipal institution.

At the CRU, the recycling, sorting, and storage of all optical and optometric material received through donations, whether from individuals, other entities, or optical sector companies, is carried out. This material is initially preselected based on optical-aesthetic criteria.

Second-hand materials such as prescription glasses and sunglasses, first-hand materials such as new frame collections and uncut ophthalmic lenses, complementary materials like glasses cases, and all optical-optometric materials used for diagnosing, treating, and assembling glasses are collected.

During collection campaigns, the CRU also offers internships to students from the Faculty of Optics of Terrassa (FOOT) and the CFGS in Glasses Optics at the Salvador Seguí Institute in Barcelona, so they can apply their knowledge from previous courses through volunteer activities.

In summary, the objectives of the CRU are:
− Centralize the collection of glasses and optical-optometric materials
− Provide material for all Optics x World projects that require it, both international and national.
− Provide prescription glasses and sunglasses to other NGOs and organizations that need them.
− Introduce students to the world of volunteering and solidarity through internships.
